DAILY WEATHER REPORT
from PITSFORD HALL WEATHER STATION
released at 09:17 AM on Sunday, 01 February 2009
GENERAL SITUATION ACROSS THE UK
The UK is caught between high pressure over Scandinavia and low pressure north-west of Iberia. Frontal systems tied into this low pressure system will work in towards the UK over the next few days bringing snow showers for many areas.
FORECAST FOR NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
A cold and raw start to the day across the county with the easterly wind now beginning to bite. It will remain dry through the morning, although we are expecting snow showers to drift across from the east during the course of the afternoon. Temperatures today will struggle to climb much above 2C and it will continue to feel bitterly cold in the moderate occasionally fresh easterly wind. Snow showers will continue overnight turning heavy at times. Overnight lows will fall to -2C.
OUTLOOK
With snow showers continuing tomorrow morning we are likely to see some disruption to travel. Major road should be clear, but smaller untreated minor roads will have a fair covering of snow and will be very slippery. We are unlikely to see any significant respite in the snow showers tomorrow and they could turn heavy for a time during the afternoon. Again it will be bitterly cold in the biting easterly wind which will be moderate to fresh. Highs of 1C with little change overnight. There will be further snow showers overnight and into Tuesday, but these will tend to become light and intermittent. The wind will remain fairly strong, but will tend to veer round from the south-west. Highs of 2C falling overnight to -2C. Dry during Wednesday morning, snow showers during the afternoon will turn quickly to rain. There will remain a moderate wind from the south with highs reaching 3C.
